Long-term Follow-up of Psilocybin-facilitated Smoking Cessation
Previous studies found that two to three treatments of psilocybin, in combination with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), result in substantially higher rates of smoking cessation in a 6-month period. This study extended further to assess long-term effects, focusing on periods longer than 12 months after the psilocybin treatments. At the 12-month follow-up, 67% of participants were still not smoking, and at the long-term follow-up, 60% were still not smoking. The success of this study involves not only the abstinence from cigarette addiction, but also a significant improvement in overall well-being and life satisfaction following the psilocybin treatments.
