Human Excretion of Bisphenol A: Blood, Urine, and Sweat (BUS) Study

Everyday therapeutics

Bisphenonal A (BPA)

BPA is a chemical contaminant found in many plastics that creates a slew of toxic effects on the entire body. BPA is particularly worrisome due to its resistance to our detox pathways making it quite difficult to eliminate, and the scientific community is now discovering how badly its toxic effects had been underestimated.

About the study

Thankfully, studies such as this one shed light on how to mitigate the harmful effects of this prevalent toxicant by discovering that sweat-- not urine or blood-- is by far the most effective method for eliminating BPA from the human body.

The results of this study suggest that regular periods of induced sweating are necessary for ridding the body of BPA, and sauna is proving to be a particularly effective tool to facilitate the release of BPA through the skin. The participants in this study who underwent regular infrared sauna therapy showed significantly decreased levels of BPA in their system compared to the control group.
